Stress is a natural part of life. Sometimes things don’t go as we planned, work piles up, and before you know it, you’re feeling overwhelmed and unhappy.

While it’s natural, too much can affect your mindset and mood and take a physical toll on your body. It can be detrimental to your heart, your blood pressure, and even your appearance. Knowing how to manage stress is an important lesson to learn, and we’re here to make that journey one step easier for you.

April is recognized as Stress Awareness Month – and here at Beauty Foundations Clinic, we are all for practicing self care. Read on to learn more.

Tips to Manage Stress

The key to managing stress is understanding when you need to take a step back. It’s unhealthy to hold onto so much tension, and recognizing when you need a break is the first step towards feeling better. There are many ways you can help release some pressure, such as spending time outside, communication with others and self care.

Here at Beauty Foundations Clinic we pride ourselves on providing options to help our clients relax and let go of their stress. Our facials are an amazing opportunity to take care of your skin and your mental health – allowing yourself dedicated time to relax is guaranteed to ease some tension. Making space in your day for comfort and relief is necessary and always deserved.

How Does Stress Affect Your Skin?

Stress is a big factor in the health of our skin. When we become stressed, our body releases a hormone called cortisol. Prolonged exposure to cortisol can have negative effects on the body, including increasing our blood pressure, affecting sleep patterns and even triggering unwanted flare ups of rosacea, psoriasis and eczema. When excess cortisol is released into the system it results in an overproduction of oil from our sebaceous glands, often causing breakouts and acne. The effects of stress can even cause us to lose interest in, or have less time for, self care routines and hygiene.
