How Does Stress Affect Your Skin?
Stress is a big factor in the health of our skin. When we become stressed, our body releases a hormone called cortisol. Prolonged exposure to cortisol can have negative effects on the body, including increasing our blood pressure, affecting sleep patterns and even triggering unwanted flare ups of rosacea, psoriasis and eczema. When excess cortisol is released into the system it results in an overproduction of oil from our sebaceous glands, often causing breakouts and acne. The effects of stress can even cause us to lose interest in, or have less time for, self care routines and hygiene.
